Empathy’s Sheet

The magic this morning has more to do with laundry and the alphabet
Than petitions to forces that shave the world into grimoire-sized bites

A fresh pressed sheet, it’s fours sides stretched to the four corners
By the kaleidoscope kinder of my time here
Friends lovers enemies family all hold a piece of the fabric
Throw their names in the middle and the letters bounce
Like sand on a loudspeaker

The vowels  Rave, dancing and glyphing and boring into the consonants around them
Forming new names and attaching themselves to different holders

And for a moment, empathy’s ballroom is replete

Male dances as female
Female as trans
The artist  covets an income statement
And the businessman swoons under the profane lens of the poet

Shame and psychoses,  grace and karma sire worldviews never meant to dance
Epiphanies in drag sweep o’er the dancefloor
Glowing tracers lift from the dance floor into the ether

Lighting god’s laughter and tears as the sheet is readied
For another shake
