Wrote this almost entirely in my head when I worked on the Royal Hudson. Steam-trained up Howe Sound, spending a good part of the trip with the conductor, George, who was # 3 for Seniority across BC Rail. Did the vox, drum machine, bass line, piano and lead.

Worked with an Alpha Male in the late eighties; good looking guy, smart, professionally successfull, lady’s man - and ulitmately, lonely cause he wasn’t attached to the stuff that really mattered. That’s how you can be a leader and a fool at the same time, or at least how I saw it at the time.

Gail Karyn (sp?) - and I went to music school together in the 80’s - Capilano College. She told me about her grandfather Odina who had passed away. Her memories turned into my words and music.

Late 80’s, working at Earl’s as a line cook downtown on Robson 7 - 3:00 in the morning, going to music school. Would go out to the roof on top of the restaurant during my breaks, look at the highrises around me, quiet amongst the chaos. Think about all the money-ed looking down on me from their places above. No money, but lots of creative juice going into the songwriting.
